Consults with management staff and employees to advise and/or resolve issues related to employment, employee relations, and employee grievance, employee leaves of absence, and Human Resources policies and procedures. Works with other employee relations staff Human Resource Business Partners and other HR stakeholders, to develop and implement solutions to employee relations issues to enable the organization to maximize employee productivity and morale. Prepares documentation and responses for employment related litigation, EEOC charges and unemployment claims. Accountable for complying with all laws and regulations associated with duties and responsibilities.

  • This role reports to this job: Director, HR Business Operations

  • Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position the incumbent must be in contact with:Other employee relations staff, all levels of staff within BCBSLA, Labor attorneys, Human Resources Associations and Industry contacts, BCA, other Plans, and consultants.



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required

  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

  • 4 years of concentrated experience in employee relations investigating, documenting and resolving employee relations matters

  • Experience training on Human Resources-related competencies

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have working knowledge of areas of Human Resources such as FMLA, ADA, Compensation, Recruiting, Benefits, etc. Knowledge of HR regulatory and legal requirements required

  • Must have first-hand experience preparing for employment litigation, responding to unemployment insurance claims, EEOC or DOL

  • Must have excellent human relations, communication, and writing skills, in addition to strong computer skills

  • Proficient organizational and problem solving skills are necessary, as is the ability to work independently

  • Some travel within and out of the state of Louisiana required

Licenses and Certifications

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification or above preferred


  • Prepares responses for EEOC charges, employment-related litigation and unemployment claims in order to defend or assist with the defense of the company’s actions in employment related matters.

  • Conducts investigations and facilitates the resolution of employee relations’ matters to minimize employment litigation liability. Reports on data collected in this area, recommends solutions to address employee relations’ issues and maintains documentation that will ensure a proper defense of the Company’s actions.

  • Coordinates employee relations activities with Employee Leave Specialist and HR Business Partners to ensure consistent practices that support defensibility of employee relations activities. Partners with Diversity Inclusion, Talent Management, BCLI and other areas of HR as needed to develop training and other programs to ensure compliance with current laws, regulations and best practices.Consults with management staff, employees, and attorney on disciplinary action and terminations to improve employee relations and/or ensure consistency with employment policies and procedures.

  • Develops and delivers employee relations and/or leave of absence training and/or awareness programs for leaders and employees.

  • Develops and maintains corporate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current laws, regulations and best practices.
