POSITION PURPOSE

Plans, designs, installs, monitors, and maintains the integrity, security, availability, recoverability, reliability and performance of primary and auxiliary technical database management system (DBMS) architecture for corporate computerized systems across multiple system platforms. Provides very high- level technical support and timely assistance to clients of computerized database management systems. Provides strategic and tactical planning and recommendations for computerized database management systems and products across multiple system platforms. Leads large groups, provides coaching to other staff, and serves as subject matter expert (SME) for database management system design and changes of various levels of complexity, including those that are complex. Achieves successful results for the client and performs logical problem solving independently and with minimal supervision / direction/ coaching. Accountable for complying with all laws and regulations associated with duties and responsibilities.

  • Necessary Contacts: o do this job effectively the incumbent has to be in contact with all levels of BCBSLA personnel and outside vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent required

  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

7 years of work experience and extensive professional technical database administration (DBA) background in one (1) or more of the following database management systems (DBMS) platforms as specified:

Oracle (Unix & Windows)

MS SQL Server (Unix & Windows)

MongoDB

Document DB

Azure SQL

AWS Aurora

PostgreSQL

MySQL

Teradata

  • Seasoned and comprehensive knowledge of advanced information technology practices and techniques for complex system design / implementation/ maintenance of corporate database management system architectures.Overall understanding of the application development life cycle (ADLC) and hardware / software infrastructure technology in such areas as systems programming, communications, server support, operating systems, and languages.Knowledge of concepts and theories to develop broad and complex concepts, analysis, and strategic planning, while understanding the impact to the business.

  • DBA experience across most platforms above is preferred.

  • Must have experience in a minimum of three (3) of the following technical competencies: Active Directory (AD), Office365, Microsoft Azure, Workflow Automation, Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Containers as a Service (CaaS), AWS, Direct Connect, Express Route, Networking, scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, PowerShell, Perl, Ruby, and Python), dimensional modeling, massively parallel processing (MPP) databases.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Technical Approach: Plans, researches, designs, analyzes, estimates, determines options, recommends, installs, tests, schedules, implements, administers, documents, monitors, tunes performance and maintains primary and auxiliary technical database management system(DBMS) architecture across multiple system platforms as related to assigned areas of specialty to insure the integrity, security, availability, recoverability, reliability and performance of corporate computerized systems, including those that are complex, to meet client needs and expectations.

  • Strategic and Tactical Planning: Provides information and comprehensive proposals regarding technical database management system architecture across multiple system platforms as needed for developing, monitoring and maintaining IT strategic and tactical plans that conform to the mission, goals and objectives of the organization.

  • Teamwork and Leadership: Provides team leadership, very high-level technical/soft skill mentoring and knowledge transfer for a large group of professionals to meet the needs and expectations of clients of corporate computerized database management systems.

  • Business Acumen: Has some ability to understand business requirements, pain points, and goals. Must be intentional about building strong business relationships and maturing overall business acumen. Must be able to learn what is important to the business and use that knowledge solutioning for business needs. Must support the initiatives set by the Principle role on the team as well as the manager.

  • Understands IT departmental goals and objectives and delivers work products to contribute to those goals.Assume responsibility for on-call and emergency response tasks as necessary.
