POSITION PURPOSE

The Performance Improvement Manager role is a facilitative leader accountable for a portfolio of

performance improvement / transformation projects that result in demonstrated improvement across multiple strategic and operational metrics. This position collaborates with all levels in the organization, developing key relationships to shape the culture of continuous performance improvement. This leader will be the primary operational lead for Provider Network Operations.

  • Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position, the incumbent must be in contact with: All levels of organization’s team members and management,, vendors, consultants, and providers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, statistics, business or a related field is required.

  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

  • 4 years of experience in healthcare project management, program management, statistical analysis, healthcare quality or a related field is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple projects, perform complex tasks, organize and follow through consistently and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proven team builder and cross-functional leader required.

  • Organizational performance dashboard or scorecard development experience required.

  • Strong written and oral communication, facilitation and presentation skills required.

  • Demonstrable skill in teaching, coaching and influencing leaders; ability to influence upward, across and down with skill, grace and humor and without formal authority required.

  • Change leadership experience; willing to take risks, challenge the status quo and work under ambiguous circumstances required.

  • Intellectually, emotionally and logically capable and confident; has the wisdom, intelligence and stature to quickly gain credibility and become a trusted advisor required.

  • Application experience and skill (MS Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word; MINITAB, JMP or other analysis package) required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LEAN and/or DMAIC methodology applied to process design, process improvement, and/or clinical innovation required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification through a recognized, national organization is required. Attainment of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification required within 2 years of entering job.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with leaders and colleagues to prioritize, select and resource projects critical to achieving company or divisional goals.

  • Leads Provider Network Operations initiatives and tracks operational metrics and key performance indicators.

  • Facilitates change and supports the deployment, adoption and sustainment of LEAN thinking; teaches and coaches LEAN leadership principles and behaviors.

  • Facilitates and coaches to established standards for value stream mapping/analysis and kaizen, and/or Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIWs).

  • Guides project leaders and teams through application of lean six sigma tools and techniques (DMAIC, root cause analysis, risk assessment/FMEA, mistake proofing); coaches and mentors green belt and yellow belt candidates and participates in daily problem-solving activities with focus on knowledge transfer.

  • Teaches and coaches standardized work development, documentation, training, adherence, improvement and management.

  • Constantly seeks to identify, share and facilitate adoption of best practices to eliminate waste and improve performance.

  • Required to present, educate, train and facilitate at all levels and to external audiences.

  • Evaluates and revises training materials and supporting tools as needed.

  • Supports day-to-day operation of the Lean Six Sigma department and performs other duties, responsibilities and/or projects as assigned.
