The Process Improvement Manager is a business development professional who oversees essential business systems and finds ways to make them more efficient. The main role of a process improvement manager is to provide an objective assessment of how well a business operates and give actionable tips to refine all aspects of the business. This person strives to make a business processes easier, faster, improved in quality, and more affordable. The Process Improvement Manager is responsible for assessing the business to determine what systems and process can be improved and deciding on the best methods to make those changes by documenting system details, performing cost assessments, measuring company waste, identifying relationships between systems, modeling potential outcomes for system changes, developing implementation plans, researching new equipment and techniques, tracking progress and collaborating on benefits realization of the change.

Provides mentoring to staff.

Accountable for complying with all laws and regulations associated with duties and responsibilities.

Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position the incumbent must be in contact with:

Senior Management staff and their respective direct reports frequently;

Intercompany personnel to coordinate major change initiatives;

All levels of department personnel.

Externally, work directly with consultants, other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, regulatory agencies and strategic business partners.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field is required.

  • Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Mathematics is preferred.

  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

  • 7 years of experience in process improvement with scope creation, planning, execution, and tracking projects with autonomy required.

  • Working knowledge of technology platforms, systems, and software and strong business acumen related to healthcare, operational, financial, and general business practices preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of ISO 9001 and or ISO13485 helpful with a high level of expertise in a broad range of business systems software packages preferred.

  • Skilled in understanding how people go through a change and the change process, problem solving and root cause identification.

  • Excellent active listening, excellent written and verbal communication, being organized with a natural inclination for planning strategy and tactics, working effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges

  • Knowledgeable in project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle

Licenses and Certifications

  • Six Sigma Black Belt preferred


  • Achieve business goals by developing and implementing process improvements.

  • Identify and manage resources for process improvement projects.

  • Plan, execute, and evaluate process improvement projects with cross functional teams.

  • Provide support and guidance to team when needed.

  • Develop and maintain process improvement policies and infrastructure.

  • Optimize or redesign process flows to meet project requirements.

  • Maintain and update all process related documents.

  • Train resources in process improvement techniques.

  • Work with business managers to identify opportunities for process improvements. Establish baseline metrics for “to” and “from” comparison.

  • Monitor and routinely report out on process performance and improvements in key metrics.

  • Determines project scopes and schedules based on business requirements.

  • Develop and maintain a list of ongoing CI/ Process Improvement projects and track them.

  • Work with management to define the short and long-term objectives and potential gains.
