Participates in special projects as a liaison between the business owner and accounting, to ensure that proper tax accounting principles are followed and reflected in decisions. Responsible for coordination of quarterly tax accruals following the principles of FASB109/ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes and SSAP 101 Statutory Accounting for Income Taxes.

  • Necessary Contacts: To do this job effectively the incumbent has to be in contact with:All levels of BCBSLA personnel as needed.Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, external auditors, and other regulatory agencies as needed.



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related finance field required

Work Experience

  • 8 years of accounting experience required

  • Senior Accountant experience in Tax preferred

  • Public Accounting tax or corporate tax department experience preferred

  • Experience with preparation of consolidated tax returns preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of FASB 109/ASC 740 Accounting for Income Tax preferred

  • Previous experience with preparation of consolidated tax returns preferred

  • Experience evaluating state nexus laws for all areas of corporate tax preferred

  • Knowledge of Private Foundation accounting and tax preferred

  • Strong math, organizational and analytical skills

  • Effective interpersonal and oral/written communication skills are necessary as well as the ability to work independently

  • Must be able to complete tasks under time constraints

  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft applications with a high level of competency in Excel

  • Serves as functional leader over assigned areas within the tax department.

  • Responsible for timely and adequate completion of routine work tasks assigned to staff and senior level accountants.

  • Provides supervisory assistance and immediate direction to specific accounting functions.

  • Serves as resource for advising on complex tax research matters. Keeps abreast of latest tax and financial developments as they impact the insurance industry to ensure accurate filings.

  • Responsible for the coordination of quarterly tax accruals in accordance with FASB 109/ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes and SSAP 101 Statutory Accounting for Income Taxes.

  • Responsible for estimated quarterly federal and state tax payments to ensure payments are made in a timely manner.

  • Assist in preparing federal and state annual tax returns to ensure filings are completed in a timely manner, including those returns of the private foundation.

  • Leads interdepartmental meetings and communications with regards to processes and their relation to Tax department. Serves as departmental representative on new work streams relative to Tax reporting.

  • Serves as primary contact for Internal Audit with regards to quarterly Model Audit Rule (MAR) requests. Designated contact over various pieces of annual external financial audit.

  • Responsible for departmental improvements, including seeking out available and new functionality, as well as facilitating testing procedures on system enhancements and upgrades.
