This position focuses on the development of provider communications and educational materials, ensuring consistency of style and accuracy of materials released to providers. Responsibilities include concept, approach and planning for all provider communications as well as monitoring the status of correspondence throughout the print production process. Accountable for complying with all policies and procedures associated with the duties and responsibilities of the position and the system.

  • Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position the incumbent must work closely with all members of the Network Administration Division. Additionally, close interaction and interviews with Provider Reimbursement, Provider Relations, Marketing, Medical Management, Benefits Administration, Administrative Services, Corporate Communications, Legal, Document Management, Printing Services and the Plan’s Medical Director are required. Frequent contact with providers and/or their representatives is required. The incumbent must also work on occasion with state agencies representing provider groups, state licensing bodies, and provider advocacy groups.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Business or a related field required

  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

  • 1 year of technical writing required

  • Health care experience preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills are required. Actively represents the department in meetings and provides updates.

  • Working knowledge of relative software and mainframe capabilities.

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign) is preferred

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products required.

  • Incumbent must be able to coordinate multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

  • Manages communications sent to providers including but not limited to, providing creative direction for the company’s provider education program by identifying innovative and relevant topics for provider education and developing the concept, approach and planning of materials, creating provider communication materials such as educational pieces, solicitation materials, billing guidelines, provider workshop presentations, network newsletters, etc. while ensuring consistency in style and accuracy of information in accordance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and Plan requirements in order to inform and communicate with potential and existing healthcare providers. Participates in all meetings as needed to achieve to ensure the correct message is being communicated.

  • Develops and maintains divisional procedural manuals and provider reference manuals and continues to monitor the materials for accuracy and regulatory compliance. Regularly updates all documents to facilitate an understanding of guidelines and procedures for providers.

  • Serves as the key contact/divisional representative for all areas of the organization to access for provider communications purposes and maintains related SharePoint site.

  • Coordinates the print production process for all communications and works with the mailroom and the Network Operations Manager to have staff assist with large mail outs while utilizing the most cost effective and efficient standards to ensure that all communication pieces are sent out either hardcopy or through email according to deadlines.

  • Monitors and updates hospital based physician documents to meet state required posting each month.
