Oversees protected and/or regulated leaves of absence including FMLA, ADA, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Personal Illness Bank, Military Leave, Maternity Leave, and School Activities Leave processing. To ensure company compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations related to leaves of absence.

Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position the incumbent must be in contact with:All levels of BCBSLA personnel, including management, as well as external HR vendors/consultants, board members, and business and community leaders.
Bachelor's Human Resource Management or related field required or
Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
- 5 years of progressive leave and disability administration required
Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of basic Human Resources competencies including employee benefits administration, policy and procedures interpretation is required.
Thorough knowledge of employment laws specifically FMLA, ADA, Pregnancy Act, and other applicable employment leave regulations is required.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Problem resolution and analytical skills.
Requires excellent organization, time management and project management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Word, excel, PowerPoint) and Workday.
Licenses and Certifications
- Human Resource-related certification is preferred.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and updates policies and standard operating procedures as laws and regulations change (LOA, FMLA related policies).
Provides mentoring, coaching, direction, support and guidance to the leave management team working closely with partners inside and outside of HR to optimize process design and improve employee experience.
Collaborates with HR Stakeholders, ODMS and employees to develop leave policies, implement procedures and create solutions that drive efficiencies.
Partners with legal to prepare documentation and responses for leave and ADA related litigation, DOL and EEOC charges and unemployment claims.
Conducts investigations of suspected FMLA abuse and facilitates a resolution while remaining compliant with all applicable law and regulations.
Develops and delivers annual FMLA, State Leaves and ADA related training and/or awareness programs for leaders and employees.
Analyzes leave and ADA trends to identify gaps and makes recommendations on opportunities for closing the identified gaps.
Partners with the third-party administrator to coordinate company leaves of absence to ensure processes are timely, accurate and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations as well as aligned with company internal policies and procedures.
Audits cases to ensure accuracy and compliance.
