POSITION PURPOSE :

Applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting and creating and interpreting financial statements and reports.

NATURE AND SCOPE :

  • This role does not manage people

  • This position reports to the Manager, Accounting

  • Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position, the incumbent must be in contact with: All levels of BCBSLA personnel as needed. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, financial institutions, external auditors and other regulatory agencies as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related finance field is required.

  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu if a Bachelor’s Degree.

Work Experience

  • Must have a minimum three years of relevant accounting experience.

  • PeopleSoft experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong math, organizational and analytical skills.

  • Effective interpersonal and oral/written communication skills are necessary as well as the ability to work independently.

  • Must be able to complete tasks under time constraints.

  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft applications with a high level of competency in Excel.

Licenses and Certifications

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Examines, analyzes, and interprets accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements.

  • Assist with monthly financial statements and other operating reports in order to present accurate and timely financial statements.

  • Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts to adequately reflect appropriate account balances.

  • Reconciles general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable accounts and resolves differences in order to close the books accurately on a monthly basis.

  • Assist with tracking reconciliations and journal entries to ensure they are properly approved and archived.

  • Accountable for complying with all laws and regulations associated with duties and responsibilities.
