POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for managing the customer acquisition, reacquisition, quoting, underwriting, reinsurance compliance, renewals and pre-sale activities. Provides support to the Ancillary Sales Director, Account Executives and Account Managers, and Producers to ensure accuracy from the field for the initial quote or renewal request for proposal, apply appropriate Ancillary product benefits for quoting and ensure accuracy of the calculated rates for the selected benefits. Demonstrate expertise in all aspects of proposal generation, contract analysis, rating, underwriting, specialized enrollment aids/forms and the processes of acquiring new business and renewing existing business. Accountable for complying with all laws and regulations associated with duties and responsibilities.

  • This role reports to this job: MANAGER, ANCILLARY PRODUCT & UNDERWRITING

  • Necessary Contacts: BCBSLA - Regional Directors, Account Executives, Account Representatives, and Regional support personnel, Marketing Department, licensed agents and brokers and insurance consultants, group Executives and decision makers and group employees. Must have contact with SNL underwriting, claims and billing personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate's Degree in Sales and/or Marketing preferred

Work Experience

  • 2 years of experience in marketing or health/life insurance field required

  • Experience to include working with group health insurance, group life, and disability preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel Microsoft Office Software applications is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer relationship management skills are required to provide marketing operational support to customers, Brokers, Account Executives and Regional Sales staff.

  • Requires the highest level of time management and organizational skill, detail orientation and the ability to multi-task to meet demands in a fast paced work environment.

  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a cooperative team environment to achieve shared goals across multiple functions and statewide locations (e.g. Marketing, Underwriting and Benefit Administration Operations).

Licenses and Certifications

  • State license for life and health insurance preferred

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the quote process, developing RFP’s, underwrite complex cases from initial and subsequent plan designs.

  • Identify standard, non-standard and field authority business and process as appropriate.

  • Receive RFPs, interpret existing benefit booklets and identify necessary information required to complete plan design.

  • Responsible for identifying cross selling opportunities. Ability to recognize, analyze and communicate trends and recommend solutions or ways to take advantage of opportunities.

  • Responsible for pre and post-sale underwriting and renewal decisions on small and large complex book of business.

  • Understand working with special case factors, pool allowances and reinsurance.

  • Communicate and negotiate with reinsurer, brokers, and internal sales on complex cases

  • Ensure accuracy of all proposal content.

  • Works independently with final decision making authority within assigned authority limits.

  • Partner with Regional Offices, Reinsurers, SNL Sales Director,Brokers and SNL Underwriting to help manage broker relationships.

  • Coordinate quotes and enrollment with field offices and SNL Sales Director; serves as a liaison between Regional Offices, SNL Sales Director and SNL Staff

  • Responsible for reporting on quote activity and potential sales.

  • May coordinate enrollment and pre-sale activities for SNL Sales Director, key brokers, and Regional Offices.

  • May train other underwriting staff.

  • Act as source of entity for pricing, products, systems, reinsurance sales and marketing.

  • Must be able to work overtime during peak work volume periods, travel in the local and statewide area on occasions with some overnight travel required.
